What is a ghostwriter?
A ghostwriter is a professional writer who is contracted to write books, stories, blog posts, speeches, biographies, memoirs, training course material, poems, songs or any other texts that are credited to another person.

What is the ghostwriting process?
It depends on the writing assignment. Simple assignments can be done with an interview process. The ghostwriter interviews the client by phone to get a feel for their thought process and language, and then writes content based on the interview. In depth assignments may require the ghostwriter to do research before writing content. In either case, the ghostwriter and the client will establish “checkpoints” to make sure they are on the “same page” (so to speak), with the project.

What happens after the process is complete?
If your writing project is a book, once the ghostwriter is finished writing, you’ll need to decide whether to go to a publishing house or self-publish. If you decide to self-publish (like many of my clients), here are some steps in the process:
- Contract a designer to create a cover design and format the content on the pages
- Acquire an ISBN and barcode for purchases
- Contract a printer to produce the finished product
What happens during a consultation?
The ghostwriter will ask several questions of the client, to determine the type of project, the goal of the project, the desired date of completion and other aspects of the project. The ghostwriter will make suggestions and map out a plan to complete the project and help the client to have a much clearer picture of the end result. The ghostwriter may offer a project price on the spot, or may need time to consider all factors discussed. Either way, a simple contract will be drawn up and signed, and then the project can begin!
